Diachromie
the color side of the look
Diachromie is a OpenFX plugin* designed for look development. It provides powerful tools to shape the color volume and curate a color palette that will best suit your film. The color manipulations are built on robust, well-curated math operations, to ensure the creation of robust looks, coherent through various deliveries (cinema, SDR & HDR TV).
* currently supports DaVinci Resolve (macOS Intel + Apple Silicon & Windows with CUDA GPU)
Contrast
The Contrast module allows for a fully continuous, parametric contrast curve.
Control each area with great accuracy without risking to introduce breakouts or splits inside the contrast.
Extend the curve to control the highlights behavior in HDR.
Color Tone Curves
Control the tint process of the high , medium and low lights. Visualize the color target, adjust its tint and saturation, and narrow the zone affected by the process.
Vertices Transformations
Shape the color volume, vertice per vertice, to define the color palette of your look.
Elementary operators (saturation, brightness…) have been custom-made to ensure smooth, round behavior in the transitions between the colors.
Complex operators (color boost, color density, low sat…) allow for a deeper shaping of the color volume by creating pertinent relationships between color properties. Darken or lighten colors based on their perceived saturation, expand the saturation on the lower end of the saturation spectrum, compress high saturations…
These operators are available globally and for each vertice of the color cube.
Enhance & Effects
The Enhance module focuses on recurring zones of interest: skintones, lips, and greens. Since these subsections of the color volume have a specific impact on how we perceive an image, specific operators are available to shape their look and feel.
The Efffects module is aimed at gathering iconic or innovative look operations, such as, as of today, the emulation of a Bleach Bypass film effect. Such an effect is emulated by a series of mathematical functions that can be adjusted by the user to mimic that classic film treatment, or set up to twist that render towards a different result: this frees the user from the limitations of a strict emulation and allows for more creativity in the look development process.
Embedded Color Management
Diachromie is meant to be used inside a color-managed workflow. Its modules are conceived natively as part of an ACES 1.3 workflow.
Alternate workflows are supported by an in-out embedded color space conversion, allowing you to benefit from the strength of Diachromie’s native operations without affecting your workflow choices.
Preset Flexibility
Use the Preset Library to save time on look development and build on your previous experiences. Save your work as a preset to build up your own Library as you dive deeper in the look development experience.
You can also benefit from the built-in presets to get a better understanding of the look development process, and to get a head start on your first look creations.
